Growing basil is easy with this easy DIY basil kit that uses an old blender and an old-fashioned spice grinder.
The kits instructions are also easy to follow.
We know that growing basil can be a hassle, but it’s worth it to have this DIY basil recipe on hand.
Start with these instructions, and then follow them exactly as written.
Start by heating up an extra large pot over medium heat.
Add about 2 cups of water and place the blender in the hot water.
When the water turns green, add the basil.
The basil will begin to turn transparent, and you can see that the water is starting to boil.
Once the water has boiled for a few minutes, you can remove the blender from the heat and let it cool down a bit.
Once cool, remove the basil and let the basil drain completely.
Using a kitchen knife, cut the basil into strips about 1 inch wide and about 2 inches long.
Cut each strip into pieces about an inch long, and wrap each piece around the blender and spice grinders and set them aside to cool completely.
In a food processor or blender, blend about 1 cup of basil.
Pour the basil onto the spice grinds, and pulse until the basil is evenly mixed in.
You may need to add a little more basil to the mix if it is not quite thick enough.
Add more basil if needed.
Once your basil has been mixed in, it should start to turn translucent, and it should look a little like this: Now, put the grinder and the spice grinds on the blender.
Pour about 1 tablespoon of oil into the spice-grinder.
Use a spoon to blend the oil into a paste.
Be sure to scrape the side of the spice grain when you do so, otherwise you’ll make a mess.
Add the basil to each pepper.
Once all the pepper is mixed in the spice and oil mixture, add a splash of olive oil to the blend.
Use the spoon to gently swirl the mixture through the pepper.
Now you’ll see a thick white paste that will become more opaque and translucent.
Add a little bit more olive oil until it becomes a thick paste.
You’ll see it get even thicker and more opaque as it mixes in the basil, and once the mixture is completely mixed in with the basil paste, you’ll have a nice basil sauce.
Now, you need to let the mixture cool.
To do that, you just need to stir it with your hands a little.
After it’s cooled to room temperature, pour it into a saucepan.
You can add any of the spices you want, but we like to use cumin, coriander, and a little cayenne pepper to give it that little kick.
Place a lid on the saucepan, and let sit for a minute or two.
You don’t want it to burn, so leave it to sit for 15 minutes or so before you begin adding the next step.
In the meantime, remove your spice grind and blend it with the oil mixture.
After you have added the oil, you’re going to need to blend it again to make it less opaque and even thicker.
Add another tablespoon of olive or butter oil to that mixture.
Blend it until the oil becomes a creamy paste.
Once you’ve blended the oil paste and oil into your saucepan and the basil sauce, add your olive oil.
Add your cumin and coriandel pepper to the mixture.
Let it cook for a bit until it starts to become more of a paste, and the pepper and cumin will start to give a nice kick.
Add any additional ingredients you’d like.
Add some vinegar and salt to the sauce to bring out the flavors.
Taste your basil sauce and let us know what you think.
